SUMMARY

The installation of updated Books Online that ships with the ActiveX Control Pack does not overwrite the existing VBCE.ivi and VBCE.ivt files. This article describes how to install the updated Books Online.

MORE INFORMATION

The steps to install the updated Books Online differs depending upon whether or not the April, 1998 edition of the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) is installed.

April, 1998 MSDN is Not Installed

If you do not have the April, 1998 edition of the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) installed, the following steps demonstrate how to install the updated Books Online documentation for Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0 after the Control Pack has been installed:
  1. Make sure the Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0 is properly installed.

  2. Copy the VBCE.ivi and VBCE.ivt files from the Books Online folder on the CD to the Help folder where you have the Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0 installed.

NOTE: You should copy these files over the existing ones in that folder. For example, the location of the help folder may look like:

    C:\Program Files\DevStudio\VB\vbce\Help

NOTE: When you launch Books Online for the first time after moving these Files, you may get an error message. This is because the location information for the Books Online topic that was viewed last has been saved to the registry and is no longer valid due to the manual replacement of the VBCE.ivi and VBCE.ivt files. This error message will only appear once and should not be encountered the next time Books Online is launched.
