Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0 (VBCE) enables Visual Basic developers to leverage their existing expertise to develop applications for handheld devices that run the Windows CE 2.0 operating system.

VBCE is an add-in to the Visual Basic 5.0 product, which means that it uses the same design environment (IDE) functionality (for example, code editor, form editor, property pane, and so on) as Visual Basic 5.0.

VBCE provides Windows CE versions of the most commonly used intrinsic and ActiveX Controls, as well as new ActiveX Controls that provide Windows CE- specific functionality.

The Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0 provides an emulation environment on your desktop PC that gives you the look and feel of a Windows CE-based device. You can develop, test, and debug your programs on your desktop. A Windows CE device is not required.

When you work directly with a Windows CE-based device, programs are transferred from the desktop development machine to the device automatically through a standard connection. You can also monitor and debug your applications remotely from your desktop computer.

VBCE also provides cross-processor support, which means you can code your Windows CE-based applications once, and then use them on a variety of processors.
