BUG: Link View Shows Links in PLAINTEXT Tag

SYMPTOMS

Link View shows links that are defined inside the <PLAINTEXT> tag, even though they are not truly links.


CAUSE

Link View discovers links in all non-commented HTML.


RESOLUTION

Do not put link text inside the <PLAINTEXT> tag.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this bug and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

Use the following code to reproduce the problem:

   <plaintext>
      Links inside of <plaintext> </plaintext> are not treated as links by
   browsers:
      <a href="ThisIsNotARealLink.htm">Not a real link</a>
   </plaintext> 
The link above is treated by browsers as plain, non-linked text.
