FIX: Drag/Drop from Source View to Design View Hangs VID

The information in this article applies to:


SYMPTOMS

When you try to drag and drop a selected piece of code containing at least the following HTML tag from Source View of one HTML Document into the Design View of another HTML document, it will cause Visual InterDev to hang:


<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> 


RESOLUTION

Switch to Source View in your destination HTML file, before applying drag and drop.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

This bug was corrected in Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 3.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Create a new HTML page and switch to Source View.


  2. Insert the following line between the first <META> tag and the first <TITLE> tag:

    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> 
  4. Create a second HTML page and make sure the Design View is selected.


  5. Select the newly added line from the first document by dragging your mouse with the left button pressed.


  6. Drag and Drop the selected text to the second HTML page.


  7. Visual InterDev Hangs; the mouse cursor shows an hourglass.
