HOWTO: Set Up Duplicate Anonymous Account on Separate Server

Use the following steps to set up a duplicate Anonymous account on the remote Windows NT/SQL server:

Create New Anonymous Account

  1. From the Windows Start button, click Run and type the following to open the User Manager:
    usrmgr <localmachinename>.


  2. From the User menu, click New User to open the New User dialog box.


  3. Enter the name of the Anonymous account in the UserName text box exactly as it appears in the NT/IIS Service Manager.


  4. Enter and confirm the same password used for the Anonymous account on the NT/IIS server. The Full Name and Description fields are optional.


  5. Clear the "User Must Change Password at Next Logon" check box. Select "User Cannot Change Password" and "Password Never Expires." Clear "Account Disabled."


  6. Click the Groups button and select the Guests group and click Add to add the Anonymous account to the Guests group.


Grant New Anonymous Account 'Log on Locally' Rights

  1. From the User Manager Policies menu, click User Rights.


  2. In the User Rights Policy dialog box select Show Advanced User Rights, and find "Log on Locally" in the right box.


  3. Click Add to display the Add Users and Groups dialog box.


  4. In the "List Names From" box scroll to the top of the list and select the local machine name. Click Show Users and select the Anonymous account created above from the list of users. Click Add. The Anonymous account should now appear in the Add Names list. Click OK to exit the dialog box and save the settings.


  5. Select the "Log on Locally" right and confirm that the Anonymous account is in the list.
