PRB: Cannot Set the Application Root for this Web Application

SYMPTOMS

Creating a Web project on a server with FrontPage 2000 Extensions returns the following error:

Cannot set the application root for this Web application. Server error: Cannot mark a folder executable on this server.

CAUSE

The folder security model is changed by FrontPage 2000 Extensions.

RESOLUTION

Use the following steps to solve this problem:

Using the Microsoft Management Console (MMC), select Server Extensions Administration.

Click Properties for your server.

Select the Allow Authors to Upload Executables option.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
