This article shows you how to tell if you have a Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack installed in your System. The way to determine if a service pack is installed is by checking the version number of specified binary files. The binary files and version numbers to check are listed in this article.

The Help About dialog box shows the initial version number of the product and does not change when you install a service pack.

To determine if a service pack has been installed on a particular computer, find one of the files for the appropriate developer product and check the version number. If the version number matches the number in the service pack column, then the service pack has been installed. This is not a complete list of files from Service Pack 3, but rather this is a list that shows a representative sample of the changes from product release to each service pack. Note that for several products, there were no changes in Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2.

To Find the Version Number

  1. In the System directory, find the appropriate file.


  2. Right-click the file to display the Pop-up menu.


  3. In the Pop-up menu, click Properties. The Properties window appears.


  4. In the Properties window, click the Version tab to display the version information for the file.


  5. Click OK to close the Properties window.
