Works: Floppy Drive Active When Accessing Files on Hard Drive

Microsoft Works for Windows, versions 3.0, 3.0a, 3.0b, 4.0, 4.0a, 4.5, 4.5a

SYMPTOMS

If you are using Windows 95 with Works and try to do one of the following:

Open a file that is located on the hard drive,

-or-

Save a file to the hard drive,

a delay occurs and your floppy drive light may indicate the floppy drive is busy.

This occurs on systems that have Norton Navigator for Windows 95 installed.

RESOLUTION

This behavior is caused by Norton Navigator for Windows 95. Norton Navigator maintains a run history of applications that have been run from the floppy drive and may cause the floppy drive to be accessed even though you are opening or saving a file on the hard drive.
