SYMPTOMS

When you run the Add New Hardware wizard to install an Aztech Rocky II sound card, the sound card may be incorrectly detected as a Sound Blaster Pro sound card.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the Aztech Rocky II sound card is Sound Blaster compatible in MS-DOS. Because of this, Windows 98 may incorrectly detect it as a Sound Blaster Pro (or compatible) and install the Sound Blaster Pro drivers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.

  2. On the Device Manager tab, double-click the Sound, Video And Game Controller branch, click Sound Blaster Pro, and then click Properties.

  3. On the Driver tab, click Update Driver..., and then click Next.

  4. Click "Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want.", and then click Next.

  5. Click Show All Hardware, click Aztech Labs in the Manufacturers box, click "Aztech 2316 Compatible Legacy Audio (WDM)" in the Models box, and then click Next.

NOTE: If you receive a message stating that the driver that you are installing was not written specifically for the selected hardware, click Yes.

  6. Click Next, click Finish, and then click Yes to restart your computer.
