Data Stored on Flash Media Is Damaged or Unreadable

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use data stored on flash media, Windows may not be able to read or write to the media properly, and you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

• Your data may become damaged, or may be erased during a read or write operation.



• You may be able to view but not read the data.



• The media file structure may become damaged.



• Inaccurate listing of media contents, or an inability to use the media.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if your flash storage media uses a non-standard type of File Allocation Table (FAT), or if your flash storage media has been formatted to use a proprietary file type. Because of this, Windows may not be able to correctly interpret the FAT type, possibly generating the symptoms listed earlier in this article.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact the manufacturer of your flash storage media to inquire about the availability of fix for this issue.
