The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FORTRAN for MS-DOS, versions 5.0 and 5.1
  • Microsoft FORTRAN for OS/2, versions 5.0 and 5.1

SYMPTOMS

When compiling with the /Zi or /Od options, the following internal compiler error is generated:

   fatal error F1001: Internal Compiler Error
      (compiler file '@(#)ctypes.c:1.11', line 1657)

When the type statement is commented out, /Zi or /Od do not generate the internal compiler error. The compiler will hang under MS-DOS or generate a protection violation under OS/2.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the products listed above. This problem was corrected in FORTRAN PowerStation, version 1.0.

MORE INFORMATION

The following code can be used to reproduce the problem:

Sample code

        integer*4 ivar1
        ivar1=ISHFT(1,31) +1
        stop
        end
