SYMPTOMS

If a program uses the older GetOpenFileName() API and is currently logged on to a Novell network, the following error message may occur in Windows 98:

MPREXE.EXE caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL


CAUSE

This error message occurs as a result of a problem with the Microsoft Client for NetWare Networks and the Microsoft Service for NetWare Directory Services (MSNDS) network clients.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft and should be applied only to computers experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem immediately, download the fix as described below. If you are not severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next service pack that contains this fix.
