Err Msg: The Page Cannot Be Displayed

SYMPTOMS

When you use an Internet program on an Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) client computer, you may receive any of the following error messages:

The Page cannot be displayed.
or
The Mail Server can not be located.


CAUSE

This issue may occur for either of the following reasons:


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:

  1. After the ICS host computer is completely started, open the Internet program on the Client computer. If the error message still occurs, continue to the next step.


  2. Click Start, click Run, type winipcfg in the Open box, and then click OK.


  3. Click Release All.


  4. Click Renew All, and then click OK.


  5. If this does not resolve your issue, verify that the client is not configured to use a proxy server:

    Internet Explorer 5

    1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet.


    2. Click the Connections tab, click LAN Settings, and verify that the Use Proxy Server check box is unchecked.


    Internet Explorer 4.0, 4.01 for Windows 95 and Windows NT

    1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet.


    2. Click the Connection tab, click LAN Settings, and verify that the Access the Internet using a proxy server check box is unchecked.
