Err Msg: Unable to Download the Appropriate Decompressor

SYMPTOMS

When you try to play a Quicktime movie using Media Player, you may receive one of the following error messages:

Unable to download the appropriate decompressor. Error: 80040200

or

Cannot play back the video stream: no suitable decompressor could be found Error=80040255

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the file was created using Apple QuickTime version 3 or 4.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download the latest version of the Apple QuickTime Player. To do this, contact Apple.
