SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install a component from the Microsoft Windows Update Web site, you may receive the following error message:

CAUSE

This behavior can occur for any of the following reasons:


RESOLUTION

Security Settings

To work around this behavior, add the Microsoft and Conxion Web sites to the Trusted Sites zone. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet.


  2. Click the Security tab.


  3. In the Zone box, click Trusted sites zone, and then click Add Sites.


  4. Click to clear the Require server verification (https://) for all sites in this zone check box. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type http://*.microsoft.com, and then click Add.


  5. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type http://*.conxion.com, and then click Add.


  6. Click OK, and then click OK again.


Temporary Files

  1. Double-click My Computer, and then double-click drive C.


  2. Double-click the Windows folder, and then double-click the Msdownld.tmp folder.


  3. Delete all files and folders from this folder. These files contain information about the Windows Update site that may prevent files from being downloaded.
