Error Message: Invalid Page Fault in Jscript.dll...

SYMPTOMS

When you try to navigate to a Web site that uses a Java script, you may receive the following error message:

Explorer has caused an invalid page fault in jscript.dll at 015f:6b70b293.


CAUSE

This issue can occur if you have installed Symantec Norton Anti-Virus version 5.0 on you computer.


RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use the following steps:

  1. Start your computer with your Windows 98 Startup Disk. For information about how to create a Windows 98 Startup Disk, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  2. Choose Start Computer With CD-ROM Support, and then press ENTER.


  3. At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command:
    c:
    cd windows\system
    ren jscript.dll jscript.old
    ren vbscript.dll vbscript.old
    ren dispex.dll dispex.old
    ren scrrun.dll scrrun.old


  4. Extract the following files from your original Windows 98 media to the Windows\System folder:
    - Jscript.dll (in the Win98_32.cab file)
    - Vbscript.dll (in the Win98_39.cab file)
    - Dispex.dll (in the Win98_31.cab file)
    - Scrrun.dll (in the Win98_57.cab file)
