To alter logo information visible on the General tab of the System tool in Control Panel, use the appropriate method:

Remove Logo from OEM Version of Windows 98 or Windows 95

To remove the logo information from your computer, find and rename the Oemlogo.bmp and Oeminfo.ini files in the Windows\System folder to an .old extension:

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.


  2. In the Named box, type oemlogo.bmp.


  3. In the Look In box, click Local Hard Drives, and then click Find Now.


  4. Right-click the Oemlogo.bmp file, click Rename, type oemlogo.old1, and then press ENTER.


  5. Repeat steps 1-4, but substitute the Oeminfo.ini file for the Oemlogo.bmp file, and rename it to Oeminfo.old1 in step 4.


Add Logo Information to Non-OEM Windows 98/95-Based Computer

To add logo information:
  1. Use a text editor (such as Notepad) to create a file with the following text

    [General]
    Manufacturer=manufacturer name
    Model=model name

    where manufacturer name is the appropriate manufacturer name, and model name is the appropriate model name.


  2. Name this file "oeminfo.ini", and then save it to the Windows\System folder.


  3. Create a bitmap (.bmp) file that conforms to the following requirments, name it "oemlogo.bmp", and then save it to the Windows\System folder:



Modify the Logo Information with an Existing Oemlogo.bmp File

To modify the logo information with an existing Oemlogo.bmp file, replace the Oemlogo.bmp file in the Windows\System folder with the new Oemlogo.bmp file.
