MORE INFORMATION

Scanner Models Detected and Drivers Installed by Windows 98

Windows 98 detects and installs automatically the drivers for the following scanner models:

NOTE: Other scanners may function with Windows, but you may need to install additional drivers provided by your hardware manufacturer.

Installing a Scanner

Before you install a scanner driver, you may need to install hardware for your scanner, such as a SCSI adapter for a SCSI scanner.

For instructions on how to install the scanner hardware, consult the hardware manufacturer's documentation.

After you verify that the computer has the correct interface installed, connect the scanner to the computer, and then install the scanner driver. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer. If you use a Plug and Play or USB scanner, Windows 98 detects and installs the appropriate drivers during Windows startup. If the scanner is not detected during Windows startup, continue to the next step.

  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  3. Double-click Add New Hardware, click Next, click Next, and then click Next again.

  4. When the Add New Hardware Wizard completes the detection process, click Finish. If you are prompted to restart your computer, do so.

After you install the scanner driver, you need to install the software and Twain drivers included with your scanner. To install this software, please consult the manufacturer's documentation included with the software.

Testing the Scanner

After you install the scanner drivers and software, you can test the functionality of the scanner. To do this, use the diagnostic test in Windows or Kodak Imaging.

To perform the Diagnostic test on the scanner, follow these steps

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Scanners And Cameras.

  2. Click the installed scanner you want to test, and then click Properties.

  3. Click Test Scanner Or Camera.

  4. NOTE: A Diagnostic Results dialog box is displayed stating whether the test failed or succeeded.

  5. Click OK, and then close the Scanners And Cameras dialog box.

To test the scanner using Kodak Imaging, follow these steps

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Imaging.

  2. On the File menu, click Select Scanner, click the scanner you want to test, and then click OK.

  3. Place a document you want to scan in the scanner.

  4. On the File menu, click Scan New.

  5. Follow the instructions on your screen to scan the image.

After you complete the scan procedure, the image is displayed in Kodak Imaging. For additional information about using scanners in Windows, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type scanners, and then click Display.
