How to Uninstall FrontPage Express After Upgrading to Windows 98 Second Edition

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to Windows 98 Second Edition, you no longer have the option of uninstalling FrontPage Express.


CAUSE

FrontPage Express is not a component of Windows 98 Second Edition. If you have FrontPage Express installed before you upgrade, it is still installed and fully functional after the upgrade. However, if you later decide you no longer want FrontPage Express installed, you cannot uninstall it using the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.


RESOLUTION

To uninstall FrontPage Express, you must install if from the Microsoft Windows Update Web site, and then remove it using the Add/Remove Programs tool. Note that this method required an active connection to the Internet:

  1. On the Start menu, click Windows Update.


  2. On the Windows Update site, click Product Updates.


  3. Click to select the FrontPage Express check box, and then click Download. The update for FrontPage Express is downloaded and installed.


  4. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.


  5. Click the Install/Uninstall tab.


  6. Click FrontPage Express.


  7. Click Add/Remove. FrontPage Express is uninstalled.


FrontPage Express shortcuts are removed from the Start menu and files are removed from the drive. The FrontPage Express folder in the Program Files folder remains. You can safely delete the FrontPage Express folder folder.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
