SUMMARY

The SONYDCAM sample in the Win98 DDK does not support Sony DV cameras.

MORE INFORMATION

The SONYDCAM sample in the Win98 DDK supports only the Sony CCM-DS250 desktop camera. The CCM-DS250 is a fully digital desktop conferencing camera that adopts the IEEE 1394-1995 "FireWire" standard but does not support the DV (digital video) format. DV cameras/camcorders that support the DV format are not supported by Sonydcam.sys.

The original release of Windows 98 did not provide support in the box for cameras supporting the DV format.

DV is an international standard created by a consortium of 10 companies for a consumer digital video format. The companies involved are Matsushita Electric Industrial Corp (Panasonic), Sony Corp, Victor Corporation of Japan (JVC), Philips Electronics, N.V., Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd, Hitachi, Ltd., Sharp Corporation, Thompson Multimedia, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, and Toshiba Corporation.
