SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade your Windows 98-based computer from the Novell NetWare Client32 version 2.11 or 2.12 program to version 2.20, and then restart your computer, you may receive the following error message:

Windows Networking:
The following error occurred while restoring
<drive letter>: to <server and share name>
Permanent connection not available.
Do you want to restore this connection the next time you log on?

Also, if you try to access or view a resource on a persistent-mapped Microsoft Windows NT network drive, you may be unable to do so. Note that you may still be able to access this Windows NT network drive using other methods.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, manually recreate persistent-mapped network connections to the appropriate Windows NT network drives after you upgrade to Novell NetWare Client32 version 2.20. For information about how to do so, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type network drives, and then double-click the Mapping topic. Note that when you map a network drive, to make the connection "persistent", you must click the Reconnect At Logon check box to select it in the Map Network Drive dialog box.

MORE INFORMATION

A persistent-mapped network drive is a drive letter assigned to a network connection that is automatically reconnected whenever you restart your computer.
