Problems Restoring a Windows 95 Backup Set File in Windows 98

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the Windows 98 Microsoft Backup tool to restore an individual file from a Microsoft Windows 95 backup Set, the restored file may be damaged. The resulting file may be 0 bytes.


CAUSE

This problem can occur when you try to restore an individual file from a multiple-file backup set that spans more than one disk or tape. This is due to design variations between Windows 98 and Windows 95 in the implementation of the QIC format.


RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, restore the entire Windows 95 backup set, and then delete any of the other restored files that you do not want.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows 98.
