Prompted for Password When Using Add/Remove Programs Tool

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to add or remove a program or create a Windows 98 Startup disk using the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel, you may be prompted to type a network share name, drive letter, and password.


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you installed Windows 98 from a password- protected shared network drive.


RESOLUTION

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
