When you shut down Windows 98, the swap file (Win386.swp) is not reduced to zero bytes in size.

When you shut down Windows 98, the swap file is not reduced in size. As a result, the amount of time it takes to start and shut down Windows 98 decreases. This occurs because the swap file does not have to be created when you start Windows 98, or reduced to zero bytes when you shut down Windows 98. Also, use of the swap file within Windows 98 is more efficient because the swap file is less likely to become fragmented.
