FIX: Error Type 11 or Type 2 When Start FoxPro for Macintosh

ID: Q127191

2.60a MACINTOSH

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When attempting to launch Microsoft FoxPro, you receive a type 11 system error on a Macintosh PowerPC or a type 2 system error on a 68K Macintosh. In some cases, while the system error dialog is displayed, you can see a portion of the organization name followed by the serial number extending to the right edge of the splash screen.

CAUSE

If the Organization name you entered is longer than 40 characters, the FoxPro executable file and Install Disk 1 are corrupted during installation.

WORKAROUND

Call Microsoft Product Support to request replacement disks. Then use them to reinstall FoxPro. Prior to installing FoxPro, remove both the Registration Database and PPC Registration Database. Both of these files are in your Preferences folder in your System folder. This is necessary to prevent the installer from inheriting the personalization strings from these files.

During installation, when prompted for your name and organization, enter an organization name of fewer than 40 characters. Or as an alternative workaround, perform an administrative install to a server or to your hard drive, and then perform individual workstation installations from there. When running the administrative install, choose the option to allow users to install FoxPro from the server. For additional information on network installations see the "FoxPro Readme - Network" file located on disk 1.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Visual FoxPro 3.0b for Macintosh.
