SYMPTOMS

Importing or appending from an Excel file results in "File Does Not Exist" or "Could Not Find File" errors if the Excel file does not have an .XLS extension.

RESOLUTION

Add an .XLS extension to the Excel file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Visual FoxPro 3.0b for Macintosh.

MORE INFORMATION

When doing an IMPORT FROM or APPEND FROM TYPE XLS, FoxPro for Macintosh looks for the file to have a .XLS extension.

   APPEND FROM <filename> TYPE XLS

   -or-

   IMPORT FROM <filename> TYPE XLS

Giving the file a proper extension allows FoxPro to find the file.
