FIX: ON KEY LABEL with CTRL+N in Browse Window Causes Beep

SYMPTOMS

In a FoxPro for MS-DOS program, using the CTRL+N combination with an ON KEY LABEL command to append a blank record in a Browse window causes a beep to occur and/or a musical note character to appear in the Browse window.

For example, if you are using the following commands

   ON KEY LABEL F10 KEYBOARD "{CTRL+N}"
   USE dbf
   BROWSE

when the F10 key is pressed, a blank record is not appended; instead either the computer beeps or a musical character appears.

NOTE: The above example works in the Command window.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, assign to the ON KEY LABEL command a procedure that performs an APPEND BLANK command. For example:

   ON KEY LABEL F10 DO add
   USE dbf
   BROWSE

   PROCEDURE add
   APPEND BLANK

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in FoxPro 2.5 for MS-DOS. This problem was corrected in FoxPro 2.5a for MS-DOS.
