FoxPro 2.5 and 2.5a for MS-DOS use the MS-DOS Protected Mode Interface (DPMI) for their memory management while FoxPro 2.0 for MS-DOS uses the Virtual Control Program Interface (VCPI) for its memory management. This change enables the extended version of FoxPro 2.5 to run in an MS-DOS window under Microsoft Windows versions 3.0 or 3.1.
DPMI is an industry standard for MS-DOS extender applications. A DPMI application can run in protected mode and use more than 640K of memory in the standard (80286 compatible) and 386 enhanced modes of the Intel 80386 microprocessor. The DPMI specification is available from Intel Corporation.
VCPI is a memory-management specification developed by Phar Lap Software and other vendors for the 80386 microprocessor.
