ACC2: Installed Library Not Listed in Add-in Manager

ID: Q121357

SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

When you add a library whose file name extension is something other than .MDA, the library is not displayed in the Available Libraries box in the Add-in Manager even though you have correctly added the file to the [Libraries] section of the MSACC20.INI file.

CAUSE

The Add-in Manager lists only files that have the .MDA extension and are in the same directory as the WZLIB.MDA file. The Add-in Manager compares these files with the files listed in the [Libraries] section of the MSACC20.INI file to see which are installed.

RESOLUTION

Change your library's file name so that it has an .MDA extension.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. If it is running, quit Microsoft Access.

  2. Using File Manager, copy the WZQUERY.MDA file to a file called TEST.MDD.

  3. Start Microsoft Access and open the sample database NWIND.MDB.

  4. From the File menu, choose Add-ins, and then Add-in Manager.

  5. In the Add-in Manager box, choose the Add New button.

  6. In the List Files Of Type box, select All (*.*).

  7. In the File Name box, select the TEST.MDD file, and then choose the OK button. Note that "Query Wizards" appears at the bottom of the Available Libraries box. Choose the Close button. When you are prompted "You will have to restart Microsoft Access for the changes to take effect," choose OK.

  8. Quit and then restart Microsoft Access, and then open the NWIND database.

  9. From the File menu choose Add-ins then Add-in Manager. Note that "Query Wizards" is no longer listed at the bottom of the Available Libraries box.
