PRB: BROWSE NOCLEAR Window Color Not Changed by @ ... FILL

ID: Q88252

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

The @ ... FILL command does not change the color of the text in a window created with the BROWSE NOCLEAR command.

RESOLUTION

Because the image of the Browse window is not transferred to the desktop until the window is closed with the USE command, the USE command must be issued before the @ ... FILL command.

MORE INFORMATION

The documentation for the @ ... FILL command states that it changes the color of the output on the screen. However, in the incorrect code example below, using FILL after a BROWSE NOCLEAR command does not change the color of the text.

   CLEAR
   USE FILL
   DEFINE WINDOW fill FROM 5,5 TO 20,40
   BROWSE WINDOW fill NOCLEAR NOWAIT * BROWSE NOCLEAR *
   @ 5,5 FILL TO 15,35 COLOR r/gr+          * @ ... FILL *
   stop=inkey(0)
   USE                                      * USE *
   DEACTIVATE WINDOW fill
   CLEAR

Note that the USE command is not issued until two statements after the FILL command. To correct this example, issue the USE command between the BROWSE NOCLEAR command and the @ ... FILL command, as follows:

   CLEAR
   USE fill
   DEFINE WINDOW fill FROM 5,5 to 20,40
   BROWSE WINDOW fill NOCLEAR NOWAIT * BROWSE NOCLEAR *
   DEACTIVATE WINDOW fill
   stop=inkey(0)
   USE                                      * USE *
   @ 5,0 FILL TO 15,35 COLOR r/gr+          * @ ... FILL *
