ACC2: Subreport/Report Section Missing with Output To Command

When you use the Output To command to create an output file for a report that contains a subreport, the output file is missing not only the subreport, but also the entire report section in which you placed the subreport.


CAUSE

The Output To command does not process a subreport contained in a report (or a subform contained in a form). Moreover, if you use the Output To command with a report that contains a subreport, neither the subreport nor the report section in which you placed it are included in the output file.


RESOLUTION

To work around the problem, use one of the following methods:

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Access version 2.0. This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Access version 7.0.

Steps to Reproduce Problem


  1. Open the sample database NWIND.MDB.


  2. Preview the Sales By Year report.


  3. In the Sales By Year dialog form, type 6/1/91 for the beginning date, type 6/30/91 for the ending date, and then choose the OK button. Note that the page that is displayed has a page header section, a group header section, a detail section, and a page footer section.


  4. From the File menu, choose Output To.


  5. In the Select Format box, select Rich Text Format (*.rtf), and then choose OK.


  6. Choose OK to accept the default filename (sales_by.rtf) for the output file.


  7. When you are alerted that the subreport will not be processed, choose OK.


  8. Open the SALES_BY.RTF file in any editor, such as Microsoft Word for Windows or Microsoft Write, that can open a Rich Text Format file. Note that the entire group header section is missing from the file.
