SYMPTOMS

When you try to import or open a database generated and saved as DB4 format in Microsoft Excel version 5.0 into FoxPro for Windows, you may get fewer fields than were in the original spreadsheet. This usually happens if the spreadsheet size was changed by adding more fields to its original number of fields.

CAUSE

When you save a spreadsheet for the first time in Excel version 5.0, the export range is saved with it. Updating the number of fields doesn't update the export range automatically.

RESOLUTION

When saving the spreadsheet as DB4 format, update the export range so that the correct number of fields will show up in FoxPro. To do so:

1. Click Insert in Excel.

2. Chose Name.

3. Select Define.

4. In the Define Name dialog box, type database.

5. In the Define Name dialog box Under the Refers to: option, update the

range to include all the added fields

6. Save the sheet as a DB4 format. Now, all the fields will show up in
   FoxPro.
