Running FoxPro 2.0 in a Window Under Microsoft Windows

The information in this article applies to:

• Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, version 2.0

In the Microsoft Windows environment, the Standard version of FoxPro 2.0 for MS-DOS can be run in a window, provided that certain conditions are taken into account:

• In Windows 3.0, the mouse can be used only to define an area of the window to copy to the Windows Clipboard. The normal application functions for the mouse are not available unless FoxPro runs in full-screen mode.

  NOTE: This limitation does not exist in Windows 3.1.

• When an MS-DOS-based application is run in a window, the screen is compressed vertically, which changes the colors and aspect ratio of the display. If this mode is acceptable, define an appropriate color set in FoxPro and save it with the name "Windows," for example. To use this color set, modify the CONFIG.FP file to include the statement "COLOR SET=Windows." Another option is to save the appropriate color set as "default," which causes that color set to be activated each time FoxPro starts.

To Switch Between Full-Screen Mode and a Window

If you press ALT+SPACEBAR while FoxPro for MS-DOS is running under Windows (not minimized into an icon), you can switch from full-screen mode to a window. The Windows desktop becomes visible in the area outside the window. To return to full-screen mode, do one of the following:

• In Windows 3.1, press ALT+ENTER.

  -or-

• In Windows 3.0, open the window's Control menu with the keyboard or the mouse. Choose Settings from the Control menu. In the Settings dialog box, select Full Screen under Display Options, then choose OK.
