ID: Q93336

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

When a SELECT command has no INTO clause, FoxPro places the selected data in a cursor named QUERY and automatically starts the BROWSE command so you can to view the output. You can prevent this behavior from occurring by specifying a cursor name in the SELECT command's INTO clause.

MORE INFORMATION

The following two queries produce the same results in FoxPro version 2.5:

QUERY 1

   SELECT * ;
     FROM CUSTOMER ;
     WHERE CUSTOMER.COMPANY = "B"

QUERY 2

   SELECT * ;
     FROM CUSTOMER ;
     WHERE CUSTOMER.COMPANY = "B" ;
     INTO CURSOR QUERY
   BROWSE NOMODIFY

NOTE: Even though the following example places the data that meets the selection criteria into the QUERY cursor, it does not call the BROWSE command:

   SELECT * ;
     FROM CUSTOMER ;
     WHERE CUSTOMER.COMPANY = "B" ;
     INTO CURSOR QUERY
