ACC95: Error Converting Database in MS Access 95 on Windows NT

SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

When you run Microsoft Access for Windows 95 version 7.0 under Microsoft Windows NT 3.51, you may receive the following error message when you try to convert a database:

Can't run 16-bit Windows program.
Cannot find file c:\MSOffice95\Access\Msacnv30.exe -r
c:\Winnt35\~tmp2424.244 (or one of its components). Check to ensure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.

Microsoft Access failed to enable or convert your code modules. Your computer may be low on disk space or memory.

CAUSE

A folder (or directory) name in the path for Microsoft Access is longer than 8 characters, for example, c:\Msoffice95\Access or c:\office\Msaccess95.

RESOLUTION

Run the Microsoft Access Setup program (Setup.exe) to uninstall Microsoft Access. Then, run Setup again, and install Microsoft Access in a new folder with a name of 8 characters or fewer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Access 7.0. This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Access 97.
