FP98: Hover Button and Banner Ad Manager Preview as a Gray Box

SYMPTOMS

When you view a page in a Web browser that contains a Banner Ad Manager component or a hover button, the component is displayed as a gray box. In addition, if the page contains a hover button, you will see the following error message in the Microsoft Internet Explorer status bar:

   Load: class fphover not found.

   Applet fphover can't start: class fphover not found.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you create a page in FrontPage Editor without using FrontPage Explorer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior you can convert your Web to a disk-based Web by following these steps:

1. Start FrontPage Explorer.

2. On the File menu, click Open FrontPage Web.

3. In the Getting Started dialog box, click More Webs.

4. In the Open FrontPage Web dialog box, type the path for your Web, and then click List Webs.

5. Select your Web. When you receive the following message, click Yes:

         FrontPage needs to convert this folder into a new FrontPage Web by
         adding the files and folders necessary to support FrontPage features.
   

         Do you want to convert this folder to a FrontPage Web?
   

6. Select the folder that contains your Web and click OK.

7. In FrontPage Explorer, double-click the page on which you want to insert a Hover Button or Banner Ad Manager component. The page will open in FrontPage Editor.

8. On the Insert menu, point to Active Elements, and then click either Banner Ad Manager or Hover Button.

9. On the File menu, click Save.
