SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to copy a file from your desktop computer to your Handheld PC (H/PC), you receive the following message if a file with the same name already exists:

This folder already contains a read-only file called '<filename>'.
Would you like to replace the existing file?

If you click Yes, you may receive the following error message:

Cannot copy <filename>: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not
full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the file on your H/PC is marked with the Read- Only attribute.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, remove the Read-Only attribute from the file on your H/PC before you attempt to overwrite it. To do so, follow these steps:

1. On your H/PC, double-tap My Handheld PC.

2. Locate the file that you want to overwrite, tap the file, and then tap

   Properties on the File menu.

3. Tap the Read-Only check box in the Attributes section to clear it, and
   then tap OK.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
