ACC95: Setup Creates Additional Access Folder by Default

ID: Q136137

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

If you modify the default path when you install Microsoft Access for Windows 95 version 7.0, the Setup program automatically creates an additional Access folder. For example, if you specify \Office95\Access as the installation path, the Setup program installs Microsoft Access in Office95\Access\Access.

CAUSE

Because Microsoft Access shares several files with other Microsoft Office programs (such as Qoffice.hlp), the additional Access folder is created by default to prevent duplicate installations of these shared files.

RESOLUTION

To prevent the inclusion of \Access in the installation path, follow these steps:

1. Start Microsoft Access Setup.

2. Proceed through the Setup program until you see the dialog box for

choosing the type of installation you want: Typical, Compact, or Custom.

3. In the Typical, Compact, Custom dialog box, click Change Folder.

4. In the Path box, delete \Access from the path or type a different

   installation path. Click OK.

5. Proceed with the Setup program until Microsoft Access for Windows 95 is
   successfully installed.

NOTE: Once Microsoft Access is set up, you cannot modify or rename the installation folder. The only option is to uninstall Microsoft Access and then to reinstall it using a different destination path in the Typical, Compact, Custom dialog box of the Setup program.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
