Error Message: MSIMN Caused an Invalid Page Fault...

• Microsoft Outlook Express versions 4.0, 4.01 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to send or receive an e-mail message using Outlook Express, you may receive the following error message:

   MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module INETCOMM.DLL at
   <address>.

CAUSE

This error message can occur if you install the Windows Sockets (Winsock) 2 Update, but do not update Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) using the Vipup20.exe and Vtcpup20.exe files.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, download and install the Vipup20.exe and Vtcpup20.exe files from the Microsoft Software Library. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Download the Vipup20.exe and Vtcpup20.exe files from the Microsoft Software Library to an empty folder on your hard disk.

2. Double-click the Vipup20.exe file you downloaded in step 1.

3. Follow the instructions on the screen.

4. Repeat steps 2-3 for the Vtcpup20.exe file.

MORE INFORMATION

When you install the Winsock 2 Update but do not update TCP/IP, the Inetcomm.dll file is not updated to a version that is compatible with the Winsock 2 Update. When you install the Vipup20.exe and Vtcpup20.exe files, the Inetcomm.dll file is properly updated.
