SUMMARY

The title of the Internet Explorer window consists of the page title and the Internet Explorer window title. This article describes how to add or remove a custom Internet Explorer window title.

MORE INFORMATION

The page title is specified by the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) <title> tag on the current page. For example, when you view a Web page with the following <title> tag, "Welcome to Microsoft's Home Page" is displayed on the title bar of the Internet Explorer window:

   <TITLE>Welcome to Microsoft's Home Page</TITLE>

The default Internet Explorer window title is "Microsoft Internet Explorer." However, the window title can be customized by Internet service providers (ISPs) using the Internet Explorer Administration Kit. To add or remove a custom Internet Explorer window title, use the appropriate method.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.

To Add a Custom Internet Explorer Window Title

Using Registry Editor, add the String value "Window Title" (without quotation marks) to the following key in the registry:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

The data value is the title you want to appear on the Internet Explorer window.

NOTE: In Windows NT, the value should be type REG_SZ instead of String.

To Remove a Custom Internet Explorer Window Title

Using Registry Editor, delete the following value in the registry:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Window
      Title

When you delete this value, "Microsoft Internet Explorer" becomes the default window title.
