Internet Explorer 4.0 Setup Updates 128-Bit Encryption

SUMMARY

When you install the English-language exportable 128-bit Server Gated Cryptography (SGC) add-on for Internet Explorer 3.02 on a computer with Internet Explorer 4.0 installed, you may receive the following message:

   Microsoft Internet Explorer SGC 128 update
   Your computer already has a newer or 128-bit version of this product.
   Installation will exit.

When you install Internet Explorer 4.0 over the 40-bit non-SGC version of Internet Explorer 3.02, the Schannel.dll file is updated to the new SGC version.

When you install Internet Explorer 4.0 over the 128-bit SGC version of Internet Explorer 3.02, the Schannel.dll file is updated to the new 128-bit SGC version.

When you install Internet Explorer 4.0 over the 128-bit strong encryption version of Internet Explorer 3.02, the Schannel.dll file is updated.

To enable 128-bit strong encryption in Internet Explorer 4.0, use either of the following methods:

  • Install the 128-bit strong encryption version of Internet Explorer 3.02 before you upgrade to Internet Explorer 4.0.
  • Download the 128-bit strong encryption upgrade for Internet Explorer 4.0 from the following Web site after you install Internet Explorer 4.0:
