The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook Express version 4.0 for Windows 95
  • Microsoft Outlook Express version 4.0 for Windows NT 4.0

SYMPTOMS

If you are reading news messages when you receive a mail message in Outlook Express, you lose your place in the newsgroup if you switch to the Inbox to read the mail message.

CAUSE

Outlook Express does not support multiple windows. When you switch to the Inbox, the newsgroup is closed and your place is lost.

RESOLUTION

Finish reading the news messages before you switch to the Inbox.

MORE INFORMATION

If you have enabled the "Mark all messages as read when exiting a newsgroup" option and the current view is set to Unread Messages, you do not see any news messages when you switch back to the newsgroup. To view all of the messages in the newsgroup (including the messages you previously marked as read), point to Current View on the View menu, and then click All Messages.
