Total Download Size Larger Than Size of Additional Components

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install additional components from the Internet Explorer 4.0 Components Download page, the total download size displayed may be larger than the actual size of the components you want to install.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if your hard disk is low on free space.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, free some space on the hard disk on which the Program Files folder is located, and then try to install the components again. To free space on the hard disk, use any of the following methods.

Method 1

Empty the Recycle Bin.

Method 2

Empty the Temporary Internet Files folder. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Internet.

3. On the General tab, click Delete Files.

4. Click OK, and then click OK again.

Method 3

Empty the History folder. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Internet.

3. On the General tab, click Clear History.

4. Click Yes, and then click OK.

Method 4

Back up and then remove data on the hard disk. For information about backing up files, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type "backing" (without quotation marks) and then double-click the "Backing up files" topic.

Method 5

Remove any unnecessary files from the hard disk. For information about deleting files, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type "deleting" (without quotation marks), and then double-click the "Deleting files or folders" topic.
