  • Microsoft Internet Mail and News version 1.0 for Windows 95
  • Microsoft Internet Mail and News version 1.0 for Macintosh

SUMMARY

When you are reading a message in Internet News version 1.0, selecting the Unscramble (ROT13) option rotates letters by 13 characters and numbers by 5 characters.

MORE INFORMATION

You can use the Unscramble (ROT13) option to unscramble words, letters, or numbers. Generally, ROT13 is used to decode offensive text posted in Usenet messages. To use this option, click Unscramble (ROT13) on the Edit menu in Internet News.

For example, if the letters GRFG appear in a news message, using the Unscramble (ROT13) option causes the letters to become TEST. From G, counting up 13 letters yields the letter T, and so on.

NOTE: Internet News provides only the ability to decode a ROT13 message. It does not provide the ability to post, forward, or reply in ROT13 format.
