ACC97: Can't Change Default Folder Later with MS Access Setup

ID: Q167059

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

When you run Setup of Microsoft Access 97, you are prompted with the following Microsoft Access 97 Setup message:

Setup will install Microsoft Access in the following destination folder.

To install to this folder, click OK.

To install to a different folder, click the Change Folder button.

You can choose not to install Microsoft Access, or change its
   destination folder later during Setup.

The last sentence in this message is true only if you choose the Custom install option during Setup. If you choose the Typical Install or the Run From CD option, you will not be prompted later to change the destination folder, nor will you have the option of choosing not to install Microsoft Access.

RESOLUTION

If you are choosing any option other than Custom for the installation type, you must specify the destination folder for your application on the first screen that prompts you for it. Also, if you are not sure you want to install the application, you will need to cancel Setup before choosing the Typical or the Run From CD option.
