The information in this article applies to:
  • Internet Mail and News version 1.0 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you click the Newsgroups box in Internet News, Internet News may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the <Servername>.sub file in the Program Files\Internet Explorer\Internet Mail and News\<Username>\News folder is damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, delete the <Servername>.sub file. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.

  2. In the Named box, type "*.sub" (without quotation marks), and then click Find Now.

  3. Click the .sub file(s) in the results list, and then click Delete.

NOTE: When you delete this file, your list of newsgroups and subscribed newsgroups is deleted. You must resubscribe to the newsgroups you want.

MORE INFORMATION

<Servername> is the name of your news server. If you use more than one news server, there is a <Servername>.sub file for each server.
