BUG: No Field Marked as Needed in DataForm Wizard for Access DB

ID: Q173973

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

Use the DataForm Wizard against an Access database. When you reach the Step 3 of 7 titled "Choose fields for your form," no field is marked as required, even when they have their Nullable property set to false.

CAUSE

This bug is caused by a problem with the Access ODBC driver. When using the procedure SQLColumns, it gives wrong information for the field number 11, which is the Nullable property.

RESOLUTION

Be careful when using an Access database. Before using the DataForm Wizard inquire what fields are not Nullable in the table or view you will choose. You have to select all the fields that are not Nullable if you want the user to update, add, or delete records from your database.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this bug and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
