BUG: No Files Changed Error when Copying Child Web of Root Web

SYMPTOMS

After copying a root Web site where files have changed since the previous copy, you may receive and incorrect error message that "No Files have changed to your Web since your last published to http://servername." The changed files is copied to the destination server, although the error message is displayed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this bug and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

This is a known problem in the copy Web process. The changed files are copied successfully regardless of the error message.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Open Visual InterDev.

  2. Create a Web project on the root Web.

  3. From the Project menu, select Copy Web.

  4. Type in a destination Server Name.

  5. Under options select Copy Child Webs (for root only).

  6. Click OK.

  7. You get a message stating that the Web was copied successfully.

  8. Add a new file to the Web project.

  9. From the Project menu, select Copy Web.

  10. Type in a destination Server Name.

  11. From the Options menu, select Copy Child Webs (for root only).

  12. Select Copy changed files only.
