PRB: SQL Errors When Using Alias Name with Extended Characters

The information in this article applies to:


SYMPTOMS

The following error occurs when using a query with aliased fields whose alias name contains extended characters:

ODBC error: 37000: [INTERSOLV][ODBC SQL server driver][SQL server]
Incorrect syntax near [ASCII 145]u[ASCII 146]
This issue applies to developers using extended character sets with a Sybase data server backend.

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Connect to Sybase backend.


  2. Open a new query.


  3. Enter the following SQL code:
    
          Select au_id as _ber
          From authors 


  4. Verify the SQL code. The code Verifies okay.


  5. Run the SQL code.


The error message that was described above appears.
