SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

When you run the Microsoft Access 7.0 Setup program to uninstall Microsoft Access 7.0 from a computer that also has Microsoft Access 97 installed, the Microsoft Access shortcut on the Programs list of the Start menu is removed.

CAUSE

The Start menu shortcuts for Microsoft Access 7.0 and Microsoft Access 97 have the same label and appear to be identical. The Setup program assumes the shortcut is for Microsoft Access 7.0, and removes it as part of the Remove All option of the Setup program.

RESOLUTION

Use the Taskbar Properties dialog box to create a new shortcut for Microsoft Access 97 in Microsoft Windows 95 or later, or in Microsoft Windows NT:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Taskbar.

2. In the Taskbar Properties dialog box, click the Start Menu Programs tab.

3. Click the Advanced button.

4. In the Explorer window that opens, double-click the Programs folder to

   display the contents.

5. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Shortcut.

6. In the Create Shortcut dialog box, click Browse to locate the

Msaccess.exe file for Microsoft Access 97, and then click Open.
Msaccess.exe is installed by default in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft
   Office\Office folder.

7. Click Next to advance to the "Select a Title for the Program" dialog
   box.

8. Type the name you want to assign to the shortcut, such as Microsoft
   Access, and then click Finish.

9. Close the Explorer window and the Taskbar Properties dialog box. Note
that when you click the Start button and point to Programs, a shortcut
   appears for Microsoft Access.
